SAFI: Sustainable Agriculture Farming Initiative project. A farming project helping rural subsistence farms to become agro businesses by increasing yields through conservation agriculture and the introduction of higher yielding varieties. Practices which decrease reliance on expensive bought-in resources are taught and trialled and instruction in animal care is provided along with the introduction of better breeds.
WALP: Women’s Adult Literacy Project. A literacy programme teaching adult women (and some men) to read and write in the local Rutooro language and to calculate. Livelihood principles are also taught to enable them to successfully run small businesses. Following completion of the course in Rutooro the groups are offered the opportunity to learn English. The programme has been extended into a new area, starting six new groups teaching reading and writing in Ruturoo.
SKDF: Setting Development and Keeping the Foundation led by Pastor Dennis Ssettaala, is based in a poor area of Kampala city, Uganda. Started in 2006 the project is training young people in essential means of employment designed to provide them with an income and enable them to lead useful lives in their communities. Over 1,850 disadvantaged youths have been trained so far. Each year the project aims to train 120 disadvantaged youths in Tailoring and Design, Hairdressing and also Motorcycle Maintenance.
