Operation Agri Policy on Privacy and Security
- Introduction
This policy sets out how Operation Agri aims to repay the trust you have shown by sharing your personal data with the charity. Personal data is information that helps identify an individual, such as name, address, phone or email.
In this policy, the initials OA or the word ‘We’ refer to Operation Agri, Registered Charitable Incorporated Organisation no: 1189098 and to the former charity Operation Agri BMM, registered charity no: 1069349. OA supports Christian-led development projects that help some of the poorest people in the world. Our registered address is: Operation Agri, c/o The Rowleys Partnership Ltd, Unit 12, Harcourt Way, Leicester, LE19 1WP. The charity is run by trustees and part-time with help from appointed volunteers.

By using OA’s website, social media pages or providing your information, you consent to the collection and use of that information in the ways set out in this policy. OA will not contact you unless we have had specific permission from you to do so.
OA may make changes to this policy from time to time. If so, the changes will be posted on this page and they will apply from the time they are posted.

- to fundraise for the projects we support,

We have procedures to keep your personal information secure.
We never sell your data and we will never share it with another company or charity for marketing purposes. We only share data where we are required by law.

This policy applies to OA’s website, use of emails and social media for marketing purposes, paper-based communications and any other methods OA uses for collecting information. It covers what OA collects and why, what is done with the information, and what rights you have.
OA will only ever collect the information we need, and that will help us to communicate well with our supporters. We collect two kinds of information:
- Personal information such as name, postal address, phone, email, also your donations or resource orders, Gift Aid status, church affiliation, relationship to other donors or organisations, current interests relating to OA’s work, date of birth (where appropriate), etc.
- Non-personal information such as IP addresses (the location of the computer on the internet), pages accessed, and files downloaded. This information doesn’t reveal who you are but can help OA to monitor and improve our service.
We collect this information in connection with specific activities, such as donations, newsletter requests, online payments, speaking engagements, feedback, etc. The information is either needed to fulfil your request, or to enable OA to provide you with a more personalised service.
You don’t have to disclose any of your information to browse the website. However, if you choose to withhold requested information, we may not be able to provide you with certain resources.
We use cookies on our websites. Please see our cookies policy below.
For online payments we use Enthuse, Just Giving, CAF, Stewardship, Stripe and similar agencies that handle donations.
- What Does OA do With the Information?
OA will use the information you provide to:
- respond to your requirements – such as newsletter requests, orders for resources, etc.,
- process donations, or other payments and verify financial transactions,
- record any contact we have with you,
- prevent or detect fraud or abuses of our website and enable third parties to carry out technical, logistical or other functions on our behalf,
- to better understand the interests of our supporters and to enable us to improve our service,
- communicate with our supporters, and
- provide you with information that we think may be of interest to you if you have agreed to it.
- Using your Information for Marketing
In line with GDPR guidelines, we will only send marketing information to people actively involved with or donating to OA, and those who have agreed to receive information. OA will note your preferences for communications.

When we send you newsletters by post or email, you can let us know if you want to unsubscribe.
- Sharing your Information
OA will only share your personal information if:
- Legally required to do so.
- It is necessary to protect or defend OA’s rights, property or the personal safety of people.
- We are working with carefully selected partners that carry out work for us. For example: Acanthus Press Ltd – or other mailing company, acts as a mailing house to send our magazines. Mailchimp is used to send email newsletters.
- Storing your Information
Information is stored by us on computers located in the UK and on reputable cloud-based storage systems. We may transfer the information to other offices and to other reputable third-party organisations for the purposes of back-up and mobile working. They may be situated inside or outside the European Economic Area. We may also store information in non-electronic forms.
We have security measures in place to attempt to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of personal data under our control. While we cannot ensure or guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration of data will not occur while it is under our control, we use our best efforts to try to prevent this.
Unfortunately, the transmission of data across the internet is not completely secure and whilst we do our best to try to protect the security of your information we cannot ensure or guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration of data will not occur whilst data is being transferred.
We will keep your information only for as long as we need it to provide you with the services or information you have required, to administer your relationship with us, to inform our research into the preferences of our supporters, to comply with the law, or to ensure we do not communicate with people that have asked OA not to. When we no longer need information, we will always dispose of it securely.
- What OA Doesn’t do With Your Information
We never sell or share your information to other organisations to use for their own purposes.

The Data Protection Act gives you certain rights over your data and how we use it. These include:
- the right in certain circumstances to have inaccurate personal data rectified, blocked, erased or destroyed,
- the right to prevent your data being used for direct marketing, and
- the right of access to a copy of the information OA holds about you (known as a subject access request).

Operation Agri is not a ‘public authority’ as defined under the Freedom of Information Act and we will not therefore respond to requests for information made under this Act; using the funds generously donated to us by our supporters for such activities is not in accordance with our charitable purposes.
- Cookies
Cookies are used on our website to keep track of the contents of your shopping cart, and to remember your name and address so you don’t have to type them in every time you order anything from us (if you select the ‘remember me’ option during checkout).
